CS Rating is the numerical rating you earn in CS2 Premier. It tracks your results in that mode and determines your position on its leaderboards. You have one Premier rating across the map pool; separate map ranks belong to Competitive.

How to unlock Premier and get a CS Rating
Premier requires Prime Status and CS2 Profile Level 10. Your profile gains levels through match XP. This is different from your Steam level and from your CS Rating. Valve lists both requirements in its Prime Status FAQ.
To earn your first visible rating, win 10 Premier matches. These are wins, not simply matches played: finishing ten games with five wins does not complete placements. Competitive wins do not count towards your Premier placement total.
Placements establish a starting point for your progress. They do not give everyone the same rating after ten wins. There is no public formula that converts your K/D into an exact starting CS Rating. For seasonal recalibration, Valve has also used performance from the previous season.
Check the rating status shown in Premier before you queue. Earning a first rating, entering a new season and returning after a break are different situations. If you want help with this stage, see CS2 placement matches.
How your rating changes after a match
Premier progress depends on match results. Before a match, the interface shows the rating gain or loss at stake. Use the values displayed for that match: they need not be equal for every player or stay the same from one game to the next.
For example, a display of +300 for a win and −100 for a loss describes that particular match. It does not mean every future win will add 300 or let you predict your rating a week ahead.
Finishing at the top of the scoreboard does not replace a team win. To improve your results, review lost rounds: missed trades, uneven buys, unused utility and positions that were difficult to defend. Those details give you more to work on than K/D alone.
Rating colors and 5,000-point boundaries
CS Rating uses colors to distinguish rating bands. The boundaries are spaced 5,000 points apart: 5,000, 10,000, 15,000 and so on. Valve tied promotion and relegation matches to these boundaries in its October 10, 2023 update.
The number within a band still matters. A rating of 10,100 and a rating of 14,900 share a color band, but they represent different positions. Colors do not convert directly into Competitive ranks or FACEIT levels. Reaching 15,000 does not award The Global Elite on any map.
Premier seasons and rating resets
Premier runs in seasons. A season change can bring a different map pool, new reward requirements and rating recalibration.
For example, Valve announced a recalibration based on Season One performance before Season Two and required ten wins to display a rating again. A hidden number at a season boundary therefore does not necessarily mean your entire match history has been discarded.
Read the announcement for the relevant season and check the counter in the game. End dates, rewards and maps are not defined by one permanent schedule. A season medal and your current CS Rating also serve different purposes: a medal can record a past achievement, while your rating shows your current position.
Map voting, MR12 and overtime
Premier teams choose a map through a pick-and-ban stage using the active map pool. You cannot queue for only your favorite map as you can in Competitive. Knowing several maps helps you play consistently when the vote goes in an unexpected direction.
Regulation uses MR12: up to 12 rounds per half and 24 rounds in total. The first team to win 13 rounds wins in regulation. At 12–12, Premier adds a six-round overtime. A team wins on its 16th round; 15–15 ends the match as a draw.
How Premier leaderboards work
CS2 has friends, world and regional leaderboards. The world leaderboard lists the top 1,000 players. To appear on a public regional leaderboard, you need Prime Status, Premier matches and a place among the top 1,000 in your region. Your region follows the locations of the servers where you play most often.
Your public leaderboard name must be approved by moderation. Once approved, it stays fixed for the rest of the season. See Valve’s CS2 leaderboard FAQ for the rules.
