To turn on comments on your Steam profile, you only need one setting. Set "Can post comments on my profile" to Public. It is on the Edit Profile page, under Privacy Settings. Check the "My profile" line above it too. If that one isn't Public, strangers won't see your comment wall at all. There is no Save button, because Steam applies the change as soon as you pick it.
Where Steam keeps the comment settings
Steam has no separate page for comments. They are part of your privacy settings. The path is the same in the client and on steamcommunity.com. Click your name at the top and go to Profile. From there it's Edit Profile, and Privacy Settings sits in the left menu.
Your wall depends on two separate lines there, and it's easy to confuse them. "Can post comments on my profile" decides who can write. "My profile" decides who can see the page at all, and the wall is part of the page. A private profile hides the wall from everyone, even if anyone is allowed to comment.
How to turn on Steam comments for everyone
- On your profile page, click Edit Profile.
- Choose Privacy Settings on the left.
- Set "My profile" to Public.
- Set "Can post comments on my profile" to Public.
- Go back to your profile. A Comments block with a text box should now be at the bottom.
How to hide or turn off comments on Steam
You hide comments with the same "Can post comments on my profile" line. It has three options:
Option | Who can comment |
|---|---|
Public | Anyone who can see your profile, except people you blocked |
Friends Only | Only your friends |
Private | No one except you |
To turn comments off, choose Private. The text box disappears for everyone but you. Old comments stay where they are, and everyone who opens your profile can still read them. We checked this from a second account. If you don't want some of them there, delete them by hand.
The only way to hide the wall completely is to hide the whole profile by setting "My profile" to Private. Then strangers see no comments, no games and no friends.
How to delete a comment on Steam
On your own wall you can delete any comment, whoever wrote it. Hover over the comment and a trash icon with a "Delete" tooltip appears in its top right corner. Click it and confirm.
On someone else's profile you only get the trash icon on your own comments. Everything else there is up to the wall's owner.
How to leave a comment on a Steam profile
To comment on a Steam profile, scroll down to the Comments block, type your text and press Post Comment. If there is no text box, the owner doesn't allow you to comment. The reasons are listed below.
Steam profile comments have no Reply button and no threads. People reply with a new comment on the same wall, starting with the other person's name. Another option is to write on that person's own wall, if it is open.

Why you can't comment on a Steam profile
- The owner's settings. They allow comments from friends only or from nobody, or their profile is private.
- You are blocked. A blocked user can't comment on the profile of the person who blocked them.
- Limited account. Until an account has spent $5 in the Steam store, some community features are closed, including posting links. A comment with a link won't go through from such an account.
- Community ban. For spam, insults or harassment Steam can bar an account from the whole community, comments included. Check the notices on your account.
- Loading error. If the text box should be there but isn't, reload the page, make sure you are logged in and try another browser.
Why keep your comment wall open
People read your wall when deciding whether to add you to their team or accept your trade. Comments from teammates work as references. If only friends can write, random teammates can't leave you anything new. If you want to fill an open wall, order Steam profile comments from real accounts. They come from accounts with games, inventories and history, no bots. You choose the text: write it in any language or generate it for your topic. Comments arrive one at a time every 5 to 10 minutes. You don't share your password, only your profile link.
