CS2 Competitive ranks: all ranks in order

CS2 Competitive has 18 ranks, from Silver I to The Global Elite. The key change from CS:GO is that you earn a separate rank on each map. You can hold different ranks on Mirage and Nuke, with no rank yet on a map you have not played.

This is the full ladder, from the lowest rank to the highest.

Players often shorten these names: MG means Master Guardian, LEM means Legendary Eagle Master and Global refers to The Global Elite. These are familiar names for existing ranks, not extra steps on the ladder.

Why your rank is different on each map

Competitive lets you select maps before joining the queue. Each map has its own skill group, so one map’s results do not become a single rank covering every other map.

For example, a player can hold Legendary Eagle on Mirage and Gold Nova II on Nuke. Knowing the angles, timings and utility on one map does not mean knowing them on another. Winning on Mirage does not complete your Nuke placements.

This also gives you a reason to treat a new map as a fresh learning task. Your badge on your main map is not a complete measure of your play everywhere else. When comparing ranks with friends, specify the map.

How many wins do you need to get a rank?

You need Prime Status to receive a Competitive rank. A map’s rank is revealed after two wins on that map, following Valve’s June 25, 2024 update. Older guides telling you to win ten matches on every map describe the previous rule.

Select the map you want and check its win counter in the Competitive menu. Two matches played are not necessarily two wins, and wins on different maps do not combine into one set of placements. Valve’s skill group FAQ also directs players to the wins required on the map tile.

Your initial rank is a starting point. It can change with later results. Competitive does not show Premier’s numerical CS Rating or its visible potential rating gain before a match.

How to improve your Competitive rank

Play on the map where you want to improve your rank. There is no published rule promising a promotion after a fixed number of consecutive wins. Keeping the same badge after a win does not by itself show that the result was ignored.

For more consistent matches, focus on a small set of maps and review mistakes that happen repeatedly. Learn common positions and useful utility, coordinate buys and stay close enough to trade teammates. After a loss, identify the round decisions you can change instead of judging the game only by K/D.

Why did my Competitive rank disappear?

A rank can become hidden after a long break. According to Steam Support, if inactivity has hidden a previously assigned rank, you need a Competitive win for the system to reassess and display it. Return to that map when restoring its rank. This is different from earning your first two placement wins.

A rank can also change if someone in one of your recent parties receives a permanent cheating ban. The system may adjust related wins and your skill group. These calculations happen automatically; support does not manually select a replacement rank.

Competitive rank vs Premier rating and Profile Rank

Gaining a profile level does not award the next Competitive rank. Claiming a Service Medal does not reset your Competitive skill group either. Premier rating also has no fixed conversion into a map rank: reaching 15,000 does not automatically make you Global on any map.
